(G)I-DLE member Miyeon has found herself in hot water after a recent YouTube video detailing her personal health checkup triggered an official complaint over potential medical advertising violations.
A formal petition was filed via the National Ombudsman on September 7, asking health authorities at the Yongsan-gu Health Center in Seoul to investigate whether the idol's vlog crosses the line into illegal medical promotion.
The complaint targets a video uploaded on September 1 to the YouTube channel Jeondobsa, which documented Miyeon undergoing a comprehensive health examination, including a gastroscopy with sedation.
Concerns Raised Over Hospital Exposure and Endoscopy Footage
The complainant, referred to as Person A, flagged several elements in the footage that could breach local healthcare regulations. The video captured the entire checkup process, showing intake interviews, doctor consultations, the administration of sedatives, and the actual insertion of the endoscope.
Throughout the broadcast, the facility's brand name, medical staff details, and interior equipment were visibly displayed.
"The review needs to clarify whether this content was purely educational and experiential or if it functioned as an illegal medical advertisement promoting a specific facility and its services," Person A stated in the filing.
Under Article 56, Paragraph 1 of South Korea's Medical Service Act, individuals who are not licensed medical professionals or hospital administrators are strictly prohibited from publishing medical advertisements.
Person A also called attention to signage inside the building reading "Specialized Hospital for Gastroscopy and Colonoscopy," urging officials to verify if the clinic holds an official designation from the Ministry of Health and Welfare.
Health Center Prepares Formal Review
The controversial video framed Miyeon as a wellness advocate taking viewers along for her very first routine health screening. Footage showed her lying on an examination bed after receiving a local throat anesthetic, followed by real-time footage of the doctor performing the procedure.
The Yongsan-gu Health Center confirmed plans to review the case details and evaluate whether the production violated current medical laws.
