Ahn Bo Hyun and Jung Eun Chae Promise High-Octane Action as 'Flex X Cop 2' Returns

Chaebol Detective Returns with Expanded Budget and Elite New Partner

South Korean broadcast network SBS is set to premiere the highly anticipated second season of its hit action-comedy drama Flex X Cop on August 7 at 9:50 PM KST.

The production team and lead cast gathered at the SBS Hall in Mok-dong, Seoul, on August 4 for an official press conference. Lead actor Ahn Bo Hyun, new cast addition Jung Eun Chae, co-stars Kang Sang Jun and Kim Shin Bi, alongside director Kim Jae Hong, attended the event to share insights into the upcoming season.

The series continues the story of Jin Yi Soo (played by Ahn Bo Hyun), an eccentric third-generation chaebol heir who becomes a police detective in the violent crimes unit, leveraging his immense personal wealth, high-level contacts, and unorthodox methods to solve complex cases.

Evolved Characters and Upgraded Stunts

Returning to his lead role after two years, Ahn revealed that Jin Yi Soo has matured following formal training at the police academy, while retaining his signature flamboyant charm.

"Jin Yi Soo's core personality remains unchanged, but having completed his police academy training, he has grown more mature," Ahn said during the press conference. "Viewers can expect to see an even cooler and more reliable performance from him this season."

Director Kim Jae Hong emphasized that the production team scaled up the show's overall scope to match the character's lavish lifestyle, utilizing private jets and high-end supercars for elaborate action sequences.

"If investigation progress stalls, we asked ourselves if it was simply a matter of not spending enough money," Director Kim joked. "We prepared a far more glamorous and visually rich second season, elevating both the narrative process and the visual outcome to a high-end standard."

New Dynamic with Elite Team Leader Jung Eun Chae

Joining the main cast for Season 2 is Jung Eun Chae, who portrays Ju Hae Ra, the newly appointed elite team leader of the violent crimes division. A former police academy instructor and anti-terrorism unit commander, Hae Ra brings sharp investigative instincts and strict discipline to the team.

Jung revealed that while her character initially clashes with Jin Yi Soo, the duo eventually develops into an irreplaceable investigative team.

"As a fan who thoroughly enjoyed Season 1, I was curious to see how this lively story would expand," Jung stated. "I heard wonderful things about the existing team's chemistry, and I really wanted to be part of that dynamic."

The second season will also feature high-profile guest appearances in individual episodic arcs, including actor Yoo Seung Ho, who joins the mid-season narrative in a pivotal, mysterious role.

SBS Seeks to Extend Friday-Saturday Drama Success

Flex X Cop 2 follows a string of successful Friday-Saturday drama hits for SBS, following recent ratings successes across the network's primetime lineup.

In South Korean television broadcasting, the Friday-Saturday night slot is highly competitive, often reserved for major tentpole series featuring established stars and substantial production budgets.

Addressing the pressure of following recent network hits, Director Kim expressed confidence in the project's quality, noting that the primary goal was to surpass the achievements of the first season.

Flex X Cop 2 will broadcast its premiere episode on SBS this Friday, August 7.
