Sung Han-bin Debuts Solo with 'DEAD:ALIVE' Showcase

"I will show you a new side of me that no one expected." (Sung Han-bin)

ZeroBaseOne member Sung Han-bin has taken his first step as a solo artist. While he previously portrayed youth within his group, this time he introduces a dark and decadent concept. By differentiating himself from group activities, he made a choice that maximizes his core strength in performance.

Above all, he invested significant effort into finding his unique color. He contributed direct ideas and melted his honest inner self into the music. He studied the stages of various solo artists to deeply contemplate his future direction.

He noted that the process of tackling challenges alone was difficult, but he did not stop, raising expectations by stating that he prepared quite ambitiously through various discussions with his agency.

Sung Han-bin held a showcase commemorating the release of his first solo album, 'DEAD:ALIVE', on the 12th at Layer Studio 11 in Mapo-gu, Seoul.

'DEAD:ALIVE' is an album capturing the process of self-transcendence, built around the key phrase 'beautiful destruction'. It portrays the journey of breaking through limits and being reborn as a new self without stopping in front of fear.

Sung Han-bin explained that he actually possesses a lot more fear than people might think, noting that his inner self differs slightly from his ambitious demeanor during audition days, which is why he chose self-transcendence as his core keyword to break through that side of himself.

He put effort into heightening the overall immersion of the album, stating that he created various devices and specifically utilized his identity markers—sun, moon, and star tattoos—in the music video and logos.

The new release contains a total of eight tracks, including the title track 'Undead' alongside 'Killin Me', 'Insidious', '3AM', 'Bloody Gravity', 'Other Side', and 'Still the Thunder'.

The title track, 'Undead', conveys a strong determination to willingly accept any pain and trial if it is for the sake of the other person. Powerful guitar riffs and spectacular drum lines blend together to deliver explosive energy.

The point choreography features a gesture of slashing the throat with a thumb. Sung Han-bin elaborated that this expresses his resolve to move forward without stopping even in the face of death.

He also performed the title track live during the event, executing his signature high-level performance continuously for about three minutes. He leisurely executed choreography with angles sharp down to his fingertips, highlighting delicate expressive skills amidst intense energy.

Behind the flashy performance lay fierce contemplation. Sung Han-bin confessed that he thought about how to balance the dance performance, considering whether to incorporate tutting since it is his specialty.

However, he added that he boldly omitted tutting because he wanted to show a new side, and realizing his own experience alone was insufficient to express such an intense performance, he practiced by referencing videos of senior artists such as Taemin and Kai.

Among the b-side tracks, he selected 'Other Side' as his favorite. Placed at a turning point in the album's atmosphere, the tracks preceding it carry a dark mood close to death, whereas the mood gradually brightens starting from this song.

Sung Han-bin described it as a song depicting the courage and sense of liberation derived from breaking free from all boundaries that confined oneself to advance toward an unknown world, noting that the song's atmosphere also aligns with this message.

His accumulated musical capabilities are also on full display. The b-side track 'Flash' is a song Sung Han-bin worked on as his university graduation piece, singing about advancing toward an unknown world where a beloved existence awaits.

He incorporated his genuine sincerity toward fans, pointing out that since it is his first solo album, he definitely wanted to include a fan song carrying messages he wished to convey to his fans, which he had previously played for them at his birthday party this year.

The greatest harvest he gained while preparing this album was personal growth. He challenged himself with an unfamiliar genre and broadened his own limits through repeated recording sessions.

Looking back, Sung Han-bin shared that he had to re-record the title track four to five times, enabling him to express genres he previously thought were difficult to digest.

He also stated his activity goals, emphasizing that his objective is to display everything he can do currently with the highest level of completion, while wanting to set a good example for his fellow group members.

Furthermore, he previewed his future activity directions, stating that he will continue to juggle solo and group activities in the future and is preparing various contents to show even more diverse sides.
