As SHINee's late member Jonghyun would have celebrated his 36th birthday today, countless fans and loved ones continue to remember and honor him.
On April 8, to commemorate the occasion, SHINee's official social media account shared a heartfelt photo of Jonghyun during his lifetime. The image showed him singing with a bright smile while holding a microphone, evoking a deep sense of longing among fans.
SHINee's Minho also paid tribute by posting a photo of himself with Jonghyun on his own social media shortly after midnight, writing, "Happy birthday. I miss you always," expressing his enduring affection.
Jonghyun tragically passed away on December 18, 2017. He was found in a state of cardiac arrest at a residence in Seoul and was transported to a nearby hospital by emergency responders, but sadly, he did not survive. He was 27 years old at the time.
Although seven years have passed since his death, many continue to honor Jonghyun's memory. When SHINee celebrated their 16th debut anniversary last year, it was revealed that the members had custom friendship rings made—including one for Jonghyun, making a total of five rings.
On the seventh anniversary of his passing, Jonghyun's older sister, Kim Sodam, also announced a psychological counseling project aimed at supporting the mental well-being of young artists in the cultural and arts field.
Speaking through the official account of the Shinin Foundation, which she represents, Kim Sodam said:
"This is my first time greeting you formally in front of a camera. I felt like I was always hiding, unable to rise to the surface—but now I've found a way to begin sharing what's been inside me."
She continued, "There are things I wanted to say but couldn't, stories I kept to myself. I believe many of you have your own versions of those stories. I hope we can find a way to overcome these struggles—not alone, but together. Let's not stay trapped in those times. Let's come out and move forward."
The Shinin Foundation was established in the fall of 2018 by Jonghyun's mother, following his passing. The foundation, funded by the royalties Jonghyun left behind, provides scholarships and support for young artists, particularly those without agency representation who face challenges in pursuing their creative careers.
