The individuals who allegedly extorted and attempted to blackmail Son Heung-min (33, Tottenham Hotspur) have appeared. Ms. A (in her 20s) is facing charges of blackmail, while Mr. B (in his 40s) is charged with attempted blackmail.
Judge Yoon Won-mook of the Seoul Central District Court conducted the substantive warrant review (pre-arrest suspect interrogation) for Ms. A, who allegedly extorted 300 million won from Son Heung-min, and Mr. B, starting at 2 PM on the 17th.
The two arrived at the West Building of the Central District Court around 1:43 PM today. They exited separately from two vehicles provided by the police. Ms. A concealed her nose and mouth with a mask, while Mr. B covered his face with a mask and hat.
Both individuals entered without responding to questions from the 취재진 (press corps). Ms. A did not answer inquiries such as "Did you claim to be pregnant with Son Heung-min's child?" and "Why did you demand 300 million won from Son Heung-min?"
Similarly, Mr. B walked with his head lowered, offering no response to questions including "Do you admit to the (attempted blackmail) charges?", "Were the pregnancy materials fabricated?", and "What was the reason for demanding an additional 70 million won?"
Ms. A is suspected of demanding money from Son Heung-min in June last year, mentioning pregnancy. It is reported that she sent ultrasound photos and other materials before extorting over 300 million won. She is also said to have written a non-disclosure agreement promising not to reveal the matter externally.
However, less than a year later, the alleged blackmail resumed. Mr. B, identified as A's boyfriend, reportedly approached Son Heung-min's manager in March, attempting to extort additional money by threatening to report the matter to media outlets.
Police arrested A and B on the 14th and initiated their investigation. They subsequently applied for arrest warrants, citing concerns about potential evidence destruction and flight. The police are currently investigating whether the two acted in conspiracy.
The arrest warrants requested by the prosecution will be decided upon by the court following today's review, determining whether they are issued or dismissed. If the warrants are issued, the suspects will be investigated while in custody. A decision is anticipated as early as this afternoon.
