Actor Kwak Do-won is gearing up for his return to the entertainment industry, approximately three years after his drunk driving controversy in 2022.

Theater company Toemaru announced on its website today, August 5th, the casting for the play 'A Streetcar Named Desire,' with Kwak Do-won named to play the role of Stanley.

A representative from the production company told Dispatch, "We felt that [Kwak Do-won] was a good fit for the role. We also considered his extensive experience and proven acting ability on stage."

Play Details and Supporting Cast

The play is an adaptation of the novel by Tennessee Williams, and it explores the conflicts between human desire and frustration, and between hope and reality. It tells the story of the aristocratic outsider Blanche and the realistic, pleasure-seeking Stanley, who clash in every aspect.

The role of Blanche will be double-cast, with Song Seon-mi and Han Da-gam, who is making her theatrical debut. Additionally, Oh Jung-yeon and Bae Ki-sung will play Stella and Mitch, respectively.

Kwak Do-won halted his activities after being booked on charges of violating the Road Traffic Act (drunk driving) in Jeju in September 2022. He also returned his entire fee for a public service advertisement aimed at eradicating digital sex crimes. Although his film 'Firefighter,' in which he had a leading role, was released in October of last year, Kwak Do-won was unable to participate in promotional activities such as the production press conference, media screening, or interviews.

'A Streetcar Named Desire' will be performed from October 9-10 at the Daloreum Theater of the National Theater of Korea in Jung-gu, Seoul.
