Data from the Korean Film Council’s (KOBIS) integrated computer network shows that as of 4:00 PM on September 22—the day before its theatrical debut—the film secured the number one spot in real-time pre-sale tickets with a 30.5% reservation rate.
The surge effectively ended the box office dominance of Christopher Nolan’s Odyssey. The Assassin(s) recorded 203,344 advance ticket sales by the afternoon of September 22, solidifying its position as the most anticipated Korean release for the upcoming Chuseok holiday season.
Dominating Domestic Competition
The period mystery outperformed competing domestic titles slated for the same release date. Tazza: Song of Beelzebub logged 103,745 advance sales, while director Lee Chang-dong’s Possible Love registered 40,411 pre-sales.
The Assassin(s) revolves around the high-stakes investigation following the live broadcast assassination attempt of the First Lady on August 15, 1974. The film follows key figures as they uncover the hidden masterminds behind the historical event.
