Actor Park Bo-gum is set to participate as the narrator for a documentary on the celebrated poet Yoon Dong-ju.
MBC Radio announced on the 27th that it will broadcast a special documentary for the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between South Korea and Japan, titled 'A Heart Singing the Stars,' with Park Bo-gum providing the narration.
The documentary centers on the unveiling ceremony of a new monument at Yoon Dong-ju’s alma mater in Japan, Rikkyo University. It captures the stories of people in both Korea and Japan who remember the poet.
The monument, erected at Rikkyo University on the 11th, features a poem written by Yoon Dong-ju during his student years and his engraved portrait. This marks the first time a memorial for the poet has been established in Tokyo.
'A Heart Singing the Stars' moves beyond solely commemorating the poet. It interweaves different eras and spaces using keywords such as 'love,' 'shame,' and 'handshake.'
The program includes interviews with literary figures, including Professor Kim Eung-kyo of Sookmyung Women's University, who spearheaded Yoon Dong-ju research; Director Lee Joon-ik of the film 'Dongju: The Portrait of a Poet'; and novelist Gong Ji-young.
The documentary also asks questions about 'shame' in modern society to contemporary figures such as Park Kyung-seok, Representative of the Solidarity Against Disability Discrimination, and Lee Na-young, Chairperson of the Justice and Memory Foundation for the Issue of Military Sexual Slavery by Japan.
Park Bo-gum, known to have a special affection for Yoon Dong-ju, will handle the narration. His warm voice is expected to deliver a heartfelt 'letter' to the late poet.
The production team introduced the documentary by stating, "People from both Korea and Japan, united by their 'love' for Yoon Dong-ju, reflect on 'shame' and move toward the future generation through a 'handshake.'"
They added, "The documentary will be an opportunity to find hope in their stories and confirm that the strength to advance into the future lies in solidarity and harmony."
'A Heart Singing the Stars' will air on MBC Radio Standard FM (95.9MHz in the Seoul metropolitan area) starting at 8:05 PM KST on November 1st.
