Namkoong Min Returns to Thrilers in Raw New Suspense Drama

Actor Namkoong Min is changing things up once more. He's leaving behind the sweet, romantic roles he played in his last film, *Our Movie*, to lead a tough, new crime thriller.

The team behind KBS2's new weekend show, *The Perfect Marriage*, gathered for a press event on July 1st. It took place at The Saint in Seoul's Guro District. Director Kim Jung-hyun was there, along with the main actors: Namkoong Min, Lee Seol, Kim Dae-myeung, and Lee Sang-hee, all ready to introduce the series.

The show tells the tale of a couple whose marriage is on the rocks. Their world is turned upside down when the wife is unexpectedly kidnapped, forcing her estranged husband to frantically try and save her before time runs out.

Trading Polished Action for Gritty Reality

Namkoong Min stars as Kang Tae-ju, a highly successful spinal surgeon who seems to have it all. Behind closed doors, however, his marriage is crumbling under a weight of mutual resentment.

Known for playing elite fighters in hits like The Veil and My Dearest, Namkoong Min intentionally took a more grounded approach for this role.

"Playing a regular doctor meant the action had to feel desperate and unpolished rather than cool," the actor explained during the press conference.

"I tried to look genuinely exhausted during chase scenes and made sure my driving looked frantic rather than professional," he added.

A Fast-Paced Story with Broad Appeal

After working on a more niche project previously, Namkoong Min revealed he wanted a script that would immediately grip mainstream viewers.

"The plot of The Perfect Marriage is incredibly easy to follow, yet impossible to put down. I read the first four episodes in a single sitting," he shared.

Lee Seol plays his wife, Go Se-yun, a hospital board chairwoman who gets abducted the night after her husband asks for a divorce.

The project reunites the two leads, who previously played ex-lovers. Lee Seol noted that their existing comfort level allowed them to dive straight into intense script readings even on their days off.

A Fresh Dynamic and Formidable Rivals

Kim Dae-myeung takes on the role of the antagonist, No Man-hee, a polite local academy owner who hides a sinister side.

"I didn't want to approach him as a cliché villain," Kim said. "Instead, I focused on the sudden shift in his behavior once the kidnapping takes place."

The drama enters a highly competitive weekend slot, facing off against SBS's current hit Chief Kim, which recently topped a 15% viewership rating.

Namkoong Min remains confident about the show's unique appeal, stating, "Our series offers a deeper, more realistic look at relationships. I hope audiences enjoy both shows."

The Perfect Marriage premieres on July 4 at 9:20 PM KST.
