The hit action-comedy Okay Madam is finally back for a second round after six years, reuniting its beloved original cast.
Stars Uhm Jung-hwa, Park Sung-woong, Lee Sang-yoon, and Bae Jung-nam are returning to deliver another high-octane blend of comedy and stunts.
"During the first film, we joked about where a sequel would take us," Uhm shared at the film's press conference on July 13. "Seeing that dream become a reality makes me incredibly happy."
From the Skies to the High Seas
While the 2020 original took place entirely inside a hijacked airplane, the sequel moves the chaos to a massive luxury cruise ship.
The story follows Mi-young (Uhm Jung-hwa) and her family as their dream vacation turns into a hostage situation in the middle of the ocean.
Director Lee Cheol-ha recalled the bittersweet success of the first film, which managed to pull in over a million viewers despite releasing during the height of the pandemic.
"Making this sequel was a long-time wish of mine," Lee said. "The cast didn't need any time to rebuild their chemistry. We got a 'cut and okay' on our very first take."
Korea's Female Tom Cruise Steps Up the Action
Uhm returns as Mi-young, a former secret agent trying to live a quiet life as a twisted-donut shop owner before getting pulled into the cruise ship crisis.
Director Lee praised Uhm's dedication to her stunts, calling her the "female Tom Cruise" for doing her own heavy lifting safely.
"I was excited because there are way more action scenes this time," Uhm explained. "The cast grew so close during filming, and it made me love doing action even more."
The sequel also introduces fresh faces to shake up the dynamic, including Park Jin-joo, Ryeoun, and Choi Soo-young, who takes on her first villain role as a charismatic criminal leader named Anya.
Okay Madam 2 promises to bring a much-needed splash of adrenaline and big laughs to theaters later this summer.
