Exclusive First Look in Busan
The anticipated Disney+ original series Remarried Empress is set to make its global debut on the big screen ahead of its streaming release.
Organizers for the 31st Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) announced the official line-up for its competitive 'On Screen' section on August 25. The upcoming web novel adaptation leads a trio of high-profile OTT series selected for early preview screenings during Asia's flagship film event.
Why This Matters: BIFF's 'On Screen' section, established to bridge the gap between cinema and television, offers festival audiences exclusive early theatrical screenings of highly anticipated global OTT series before their official platform rollouts.
Webtoon Fantasy Brought to Life
Based on the popular hit web novel and webtoon of the same name, Remarried Empress centers on a perfect empress who chooses to divorce her husband after he demands a separation—only to marry a neighboring emperor and retain her title.
The adaptation has drawn substantial industry attention due to its ensemble cast featuring prominent Korean actors:
Shin Min-a
Ju Ji-hoon
Lee Jong-suk
Lee Se-young
Selected episodes of the series will screen during the festival, offering attendees the first look at the live-action production.
Diverse OTT Showcase at BIFF
Alongside Remarried Empress, Netflix will showcase two original projects in the 'On Screen' selection:
Sweet Part-Time Job: A suspenseful narrative built on imaginative mystery surrounding a suspicious part-time work environment.
Blue Road: Directed by Han Jun-hee (D.P.), starring Son Suk-ku, Eita Nagayama, and Kim Shin-rok, following a complex investigation into a cross-border serial murder case.
The 31st Busan International Film Festival runs from October 6 to October 15 at the Busan Cinema Center and surrounding venues. Director Kim Jong-kwan's Day and Night to Each Other will serve as the opening film.
