Starship Entertainment has secured a major legal victory in its ongoing crusade to protect K-pop girl group IVE.
A perpetrator responsible for creating and distributing fake, malicious video footage targeting the members has officially received a prison sentence.
Starship uploaded a formal notice to IVE's official social media channels on September 9, updating fans on their recent legal measures against the infringement of the group's rights.
Real Jail Time for Fake Video Creator
According to the agency, the court handed down a prison sentence to the defendant who was indicted on charges including the distribution of false video content.
Represented by top-tier legal firm Kim & Chang, Starship maintained a firm posture throughout the investigation and trial process.
"We responded strictly throughout the investigation and trial," the agency noted. "We will continue to enforce a zero-tolerance policy against severe violations of our artists' rights and hold offenders accountable until the end."
New Lawsuits Target Youtube Cyber Wreckers
Starship isn't stopping there. On the same day, the agency filed additional criminal complaints with law enforcement targeting malicious YouTube channels and so-called "cyber wreckers" who continuously target member Jang Wonyoung.
The new wave of legal actions covers individuals who repeatedly post false information, maliciously edit performance footage to fabricate rumors about Wonyoung's character, and launch targeted personal attacks.
The agency emphasized that anonymity won't protect offenders. Even accounts hiding behind fake aliases or foreign platforms will be tracked down using international legal channels.
Starship warned that both initial creators and secondary re-uploaders will face civil and criminal liability, reaffirming their commitment to building a safe environment for their artists.
