Actress Soo-hyun, also known as Claudia Kim, will close out the Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) as the host of its closing ceremony.
The BIFF office announced today, August 11th, that "Soo-hyun has been selected as the host for the closing ceremony of the 30th Busan International Film Festival. This stage will be the platform to announce the festival's first leap forward as a competitive film festival to the world."
Solo Hosting and BIFF's New Direction
This year, the festival will feature a single host for both its opening and closing ceremonies. Actor Lee Byung-hun was previously announced as the opening ceremony host. Soo-hyun will independently lead the "Busan Awards" ceremony. The festival office expressed high expectations, stating, "Soo-hyun will bring the festival to a poignant conclusion. With her unrivaled acting career and exceptional language skills, she will serve as a vital link between films and the audience."
Soo-hyun debuted in the 2006 drama 'Queen of the Game' and made history as the first Korean actress to appear in a Marvel film, playing Dr. Helen Cho in 'Avengers: Age of Ultron' (2015). She has since appeared in other global blockbusters, including the Harry Potter spinoff 'Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald' (2018) and 'The Dark Tower' (2017).
Her domestic career has also thrived with recent roles in dramas such as 'The Atypical Family' (2024) and 'Gyeongseong Creature.' For her performance in the film 'A Normal Family' (2024), she was awarded Best Supporting Actress at the 61st Baeksang Arts Awards.
The 30th Busan International Film Festival will run from September 17th to 26th at the Busan Cinema Center and surrounding areas.
