On August 5th, the Toronto International Film Festival announced four recipients for its "Tribute Awards" on its official website. Lee Byung-hun was named alongside Hollywood actor Jodie Foster, director Guillermo del Toro, and director Hikari.
An official from the festival praised the actor, stating, "We are delighted to honor Lee Byung-hun's overwhelming talent. He is a global star who has achieved great success in both films and series, seamlessly moving between Korea and Hollywood."
Honoring Global Cinematic Contributions
The Tribute Awards are given to filmmakers who have made significant contributions to world cinema, honoring various artists from actors to directors. This marks the 7th edition of the awards, with the ceremony scheduled for September 7th.
In addition to the award, Lee Byung-hun's latest film, 'Inevitable,' has also been invited to the festival. The crime thriller is set to have its world premiere at the Venice International Film Festival, which opens on August 27th, and its North American premiere will be at TIFF.
'Inevitable' is a crime thriller following an office worker named Man-soo (played by Lee Byung-hun) who, after being unexpectedly fired, gets entangled in a fierce battle to find a new job. Directed by the acclaimed Park Chan-wook, the film is generating high expectations for its unique mise-en-scène and robust direction. The cast also includes Son Ye-jin, Park Hee-soon, Lee Sung-min, and Yeom Hye-ran.
The 50th Toronto International Film Festival will be held from September 4th to September 14th throughout Toronto.
