🎬 Director Kang Hyoung-chul Returns After 7 Years with a New Kind of Hero Movie

Best known for hits like Scandal Makers, Sunny, and Swing Kids, Kang Hyoung-chul is back after a 7-year hiatus — this time with a quirky twist on the superhero genre. In High Five, ordinary people like a taekwondo coach and a neighborhood yogurt seller suddenly gain supernatural abilities. Even a shady cult leader joins the mix, adding extra flavor.

"Back in the day, there were always feel-good movies at the video store. High Five has that same vibe," said Director Kang.

🎭 From Laughter to Action: A Star-Studded Cast Delivers Chaotic Chemistry

The cast, including Ahn Jae-hong, Ra Mi-ran, Kim Hee-won, Oh Jung-se, Park Jin-young, and Lee Jae-in, gathered on May 12 for the production briefing held at Lotte Cinema Konkuk University.

The film follows five everyday people who gain random superpowers after organ transplants — and soon get caught up in a battle against those who seek to steal their powers.

🦸‍♂️ Ahn Jae-hong & Ra Mi-ran Lead the Quirky Squad of Unlikely Heroes

Ahn Jae-hong plays "Ji-sung," whose superhuman lung power lets him blow everything away. Rocking a bold bob haircut, Ahn said, "He's like an oxygen tank. He's also a superpower nerd and basically leads the High Five team."

Ra Mi-ran stars as "Seon-nyeo," a stunning woman whose charm is literally her power. "When else will I get to play the pretty one?" she joked. "I figured this would be my first and last chance."

🎭 Villains, Dads, and Taekwondo Queens — More Characters with a Twist

Park Jin-young transforms into the villain "Young-chun," a greedy cult leader who regains youth after a pancreas transplant.

Oh Jung-se plays "Jong-min," a broke taekwondo coach whose superpower is being a dad. "When it comes to his daughter, his strength knows no limits," said Oh.

Lee Jae-in plays "Wan-seo," Jong-min's daughter — a feisty taekwondo prodigy with insane speed and power.

🕵️‍♂️ Postponed by Scandal: The Backstory Behind the Delayed Release

Originally set to release in 2023, the film was delayed due to Yoo Ah-in's drug scandal. Yoo plays "Gi-dong," a hipster slacker who gains the ability to see electromagnetic waves. "It was unfortunate," said Director Kang. "But I felt a duty to complete the work for all the other brilliant cast members."

Kang confirmed that Yoo's scenes were largely untouched in the final cut.

🎉 Coming Soon: A Feel-Good Film for Summer Moviegoers

"Whether as a fan or as an actor, this is a film I've been waiting for," said Park Jin-young. "We're confident in what we've made — and now it's time to share it with audiences."

High Five hits theaters on May 30.
