KBS announcer Kim Jin-woong has sparked controversy with a careless remark about fellow announcer Do Gyeong-wan. A petition has now been filed calling for his removal from the network.

On August 25th, a petition titled "'We petition for announcer Kim Jin-woong's removal from all programs and his resignation'" was posted on the KBS viewer petition board.

The petitioner, identified as "A," took issue with his recent comment on a variety show where he targeted Do Gyeong-wan, saying, "I can't live as someone's sub like Do Gyeong-wan."

The petitioner expressed deep disappointment and anger. "A public broadcaster's announcer holds a position that requires them to show integrity and dignity to the nation through their words and actions," they wrote. "However, Kim Jin-woong's comment, aimed at a senior colleague, went beyond a joke and was a public denigration of a specific person."

The petitioner also found Kim's apology "shocking," writing, "Despite being an announcer in his late 30s, he made a remark that sounds like it came from a teenager." The post concluded by stating, "This act damages the dignity of a KBS announcer and betrays the public's trust. We strongly petition for his removal from all programs and his resignation."

The petition has a deadline of the 24th of next month. If it receives over 1,000 signatures within that period, the relevant department at KBS is required to provide a direct response.

The controversial comment was made on the August 24th broadcast of KBS-2TV's "The Boss Has Donkey Ears." The comment drew a swift reaction from Do Gyeong-wan's wife, singer Jang Yoon-jeong, who posted a screenshot of a related article on her social media, emphasizing, "There is no 'sub' between family."

Kim Jin-woong has since apologized, bowing his head and saying, "I caused concern with my careless remark. My enthusiasm got ahead of my caution."

Do Gyeong-wan and Jang Yoon-jeong married in 2013 and have a son and a daughter.
