"We will show you the self-willed and brilliant side of IDID!" (Park Won-bin)

The rookie boy group IDID has boldly made its debut. With an average age of 18, the members are like newly sprouted seedlings, ready to captivate K-pop with their fresh energy.

IDID is the first boy group launched by Starship Entertainment in five years. The members were formed through the in-house survival project "Debut's Plan," and each boasts a unique personality. "We've been so eagerly waiting for this day," said Kim Min-jae. "I had faith that 'I could do it' during the project, and I will show a great side of IDID to our fans."

On September 15th, IDID held a media showcase for their first mini-album, I did it., at the Yes24 Live Hall in Seoul.

A Confident & Ambitious Debut

The group's name, IDID, is an abbreviation of "I did it," which encapsulates their confident and challenging spirit. "The name holds our determination to achieve anything," said Park Won-bin, adding, "We will become a group that overcomes limits in any field." The seven members—Jang Yong-hoon, Kim Min-jae, Park Won-bin, Choo Yu-chan, Park Sung-hyun, Baek Jun-hyeok, and Jeong Se-min—are set to showcase their unique charm. "We'll show the freshness that only we have on stage," said Park Sung-hyun.

Following in the footsteps of their respected seniors at Starship, Jang Yong-hoon expressed his excitement. "I hope to perform on world tours and at overseas festivals like our seniors," he said. The group has also received warm support and advice. "Our Cravity seniors told us, 'The stage is about momentum, so don't be afraid,'" said Baek Jun-hyeok. "I also learned about stage presence and gestures from Ive's Rei senior."

The group's identity is inspired by penguins. Choo Yu-chan explained, "IDID is a team that takes on challenges like a 'first penguin' and comes together as one like an 'emperor penguin.'" He added that the name also signifies their bond with fans, as they will support each other and fill each other's gaps.

The Story of "Unprocessed Imperfection"

The debut album, I did it., features a total of eight tracks that are organically connected, reflecting the members' diverse emotions. The songs have different moods, but they all share one common theme: "unprocessed imperfection." Jang Yong-hoon explained, "We've poured our various emotions from the survival program to our pre-debut period into these eight tracks. Those feelings naturally connect in the order of the album."

The title track, "Self-willed and Brilliant," is a song full of youthful freedom and energy. Its refreshing vocals are layered over an acoustic guitar and rhythmic drum sound. "This song shows our team's direction," said Jeong Se-min. "The lyrics, 'Even if I fall, even if I get hurt, that's still me,' express IDID best."

The album also contains a message of comfort for listeners. "I hope that anyone who listens to our songs can find comfort and new strength to start anew," said Baek Jun-hyeok.

At the showcase, IDID performed the title track with a confident stage presence that belied their rookie status. The members seemed to fully enjoy the performance, making eye contact with each other as they executed their formations. The choreography's key point is particularly impressive, with the members freely extending their arms during the chorus, conveying their will to express themselves without being constrained.

The members have already proven their skills, having been selected through a survival audition. They even performed on music shows with their pre-debut track, "Step It Up," in July. "I realized how much fun it is to dance and sing," said Jang Yong-hoon. Kim Min-jae added, "I will repay the support we've received from our stages a hundred, even a thousand times over."

With a powerful ambition, Jang Yong-hoon stated, "We want to become artists who represent our generation, like Coldplay or Bruno Mars," vowing to expand their reach to international stages.

IDID's album, I did it., was released on major music streaming sites on the same day at 6 PM KST.
