TVXQ's Yunho's solo track "Thank U" is experiencing a heated resurgence, shooting up the charts four years after its initial release.

According to South Korean music platform Melon, on July 8th, "Thank U" saw an astounding 56-fold increase in listeners compared to its baseline between June 3rd and 5th.

Yunho himself participated in the production presentation for the Disney+ original series 'Pine: Hillbillies' today, where he shared three "lessons" for viewers. Actor Lee Dong-hwi even uploaded a video of his lessons on social media.

The Track and Its Viral Resurgence

"Thank U" is a solo song Yunho released in 2021, serving as the title track for his 2nd mini-album 'NOIR.' It's a pop-dance track that blends trumpet sounds with an addictive chorus.

The song is particularly characterized by its confident and somewhat quirky lyrics, such as "This is the first lesson: keep good things to yourself, now the second lesson: keep sadness to yourself." These "B-grade" emotional lyrics have fueled its viral popularity. The lyrics convey a strong will to use online cynicism and mockery as fuel for personal growth, contrasting sharply with Yunho's serious and powerful performance and rapping.

"Thank U" initially gained traction through a music video reaction video by internet broadcaster Looksam. Subsequently, various stage performance videos spread rapidly across social media through algorithms.

This led to the creation of numerous memes, with "Thank U" parodies accumulating millions of views. A common reaction among fans has been, "What on earth is the fourth lesson?"

Yunho himself joined the craze, sharing a "Thank U" challenge video with RIIZE on TVXQ's social media, captioned with "Lesson complete." This video alone has garnered 8.74 million views.

KBS's 'Music Bank' even re-uploaded the 4-year-old music show performance video of "Thank U" on July 4th, which accumulated 560,000 views in just three days, proving its renewed virality.

Upcoming Acting Role

Meanwhile, Yunho is set to appear in the Disney+ series 'Pine: Hillbillies,' which premieres on July 16th. He takes on the role of 'Beolggyu,' a gangster from Mokpo, promising to showcase a charming character with a thick dialect and warm human touch.
