Actor Choi Jung-won, a former member of the group UN, has been booked and is under investigation for alleged violations of the Stalking Punishment Act and for special intimidation.
According to the Seoul Jungbu Police Station, Choi Jung-won was booked on charges of stalking a woman by allegedly going to her home and threatening her with a bladed weapon on August 16th, the same day she broke up with him.
A Dispatch investigation has confirmed that a charge of special intimidation was also applied. Choi Jung-won reportedly threatened his ex-girlfriend with a kitchen knife, and threatening phone calls and messages have also been confirmed.
Recognizing the severity of the situation, the police took an "emergency temporary measure" against Choi Jung-won for his stalking behavior, immediately issuing a restraining order to protect the victim.
The Seoul Central District Court also approved the provisional measure, explaining that "the matter is urgent and deemed necessary to prevent continued stalking behavior."
Both the emergency temporary measure and the provisional measure are legal protections for stalking victims. They prohibit the offender from approaching the victim within 100 meters and also ban them from making telecommunication contact. Violating these measures can result in up to one year in prison or a fine of up to 10 million KRW. The police are currently investigating the circumstances of the crime.
