"We want to create a butterfly effect in the K-pop market!" (Bom)
The rookie girl group AtHeart has begun its powerful first flight. With an average age of just 16, the members are determined to captivate the K-pop world with their fresh energy. They've already shown their potential with the pre-debut song "Good Girl" in May, and now they're ready to make their full presence felt with their official debut.
"This moment feels like a dream. I've been waiting for this day," said Mitch, conveying her nervous excitement. "I'm so thrilled and happy to finally be meeting everyone."
AtHeart held a media showcase for their first EP, "Plot Twist," today, August 13th, at the Blue Square SOL Travel Hall in Yongsan-gu, Seoul.
A New Group from K-Pop Veterans
The name AtHeart is a combination of 'At' (@, meaning connection) and 'Heart,' signifying their goal to connect with each other's hearts and create a new world with their fans.
The group was formed by a team of K-pop experts, including former SM Entertainment Chairman Han Se-min, former SM casting director Kang Jeong-a, renowned choreographer Lia Kim, and visual director Lee Gyeom.
The group features a diverse lineup of multinational members. Seo-hyun, Na-hyun, Bom, and Arin are Korean, while Mitch is American, Caitlyn is Filipino, and Aurora is Japanese.
The group will be promoting with six members for now. Bom explained, "Aurora is unable to attend due to health reasons. We will be sure to show a great performance together in the next album."
Ambitious Debut and the 'Butterfly Effect
The debut EP, 'Plot Twist,' symbolizes their first flight into the world. Each track on the album captures different emotions within an unpredictable narrative. The album features five songs in various genres, including the title track "Plot Twist," "Push Back," "Dot Dot Dot...," "New Me," and "Good Girl."
"We wanted to show off our diverse colors and unexpected charm with this debut album," said Arin. "Please look forward to AtHeart's full growth story."
The title track "Plot Twist" is a dance song that blends pop and EDM. Its dreamy mood is enhanced by the members' acapella harmonies, adding a mysterious charm. The group also performed the title track at the showcase, displaying a confidence beyond their rookie status with smooth yet precise movements.
The performance was crafted under the guidance of choreographer Lia Kim. Arin commented, "We received her generous feedback. We hope to make a mark on the K-pop girl group scene."
They also performed a key point dance called the "Nami Twist," a paired move where Na-hyun and Mitch wrap their arms around each other's heads—a move that perfectly captures their reversal in concept.
Despite being rookies, AtHeart has already received a lot of attention. Their pre-debut song "Good Girl" released in May has already surpassed 10 million views on YouTube.
The members expressed their bold ambitions. "I want to work hard to let many people know about AtHeart," said Seo-hyun. "I want to take first place on music shows and charts."
Bom referred to the album's keyword as "butterfly effect." She explained, "It means that a small flap of the wings can create a big ripple. We want to present a new paradigm for K-pop."
The members cited Girls' Generation as their role model. Na-hyun recalled, "Senior artist Sooyoung was in our music video teaser with us. Thanks to her advice and encouragement, we were able to film in a comfortable atmosphere."
Sooyoung also participated in the group's dance challenge. "It was so wonderful and moving," said Bom. "Nahyun even shed tears of joy."
Finally, Bom expressed the group's determination, saying, "We have finally taken our first step. Even if it's a small one, we want to move forward on the right path. We will continue to work hard to show you a great side of us."
AtHeart's debut album was released on major music streaming sites at 6 PM today, August 13th.
