“To everyone working tirelessly today, I want to say: It’s okay to take it easy sometimes.” — Ahn Hyo-seop
Actors Ahn Hyo-seop and Chae Won-bin are trading the gray cityscapes for the lush greenery of Deokpung Village. Their new project, a "therapy romance," follows two workaholics who learn to fill their emotional voids through an unexpected countryside connection.
On the afternoon of the 15th, SBS held a press conference for its new Wednesday-Thursday drama, 'Sold Out Today' (written by Jin Seung-hee, directed by Ahn Jong-yeon), at the SBS Hall in Yangcheon-gu, Seoul. The lead stars were joined by co-star Kim Bum and Director Ahn Jong-yeon.
A Clash of Perfectionists
The drama centers on the collision between Matthew Lee (Ahn Hyo-seop), a perfectionist farmer, and Dam Ye-jin (Chae Won-bin), a high-octane home shopping host known as the "Sold-Out Queen."
Ahn Hyo-seop portrays a modern "three-job" farmer—handling everything from cultivation and ingredient development to business management. Despite his hectic schedule, he is a warm figure who prioritizes the safety of the village elders.
Reflecting on his choice to join the project, Ahn shared: “I had been doing intense, emotionally draining works back-to-back. I encountered this script just as I was reflecting on my life’s direction.” He added with a smile, “Getting some sunlight and experiencing a farmer’s life was healing in itself. There are no grand villains or spectacular events, but the story of people living day by day really resonated with me.”
Ahn even mastered driving a cultivator (power tiller) for the role. “Since I had to transport the village residents, I felt a huge responsibility for their safety. I drove it so much it started to feel like my own car.”
The Chemistry of Comfort
Director Ahn Jong-yeon praised Ahn Hyo-seop’s hidden comedic side. “He has done many serious and cool roles, but I wanted to dig out his inner comedian. He was so funny that the assistant directors actually had to tell him to tone it down,” the director joked.
Chae Won-bin, playing the relentless show host Dam Ye-jin, visited actual home shopping sets to prepare for the role. “It’s a profession that requires doing so much in such a short time,” she explained. “I kept looking in the mirror asking myself, ‘Would I buy this product?’ because I wanted the character to feel authentic.”
A "Wellness" Drama for the Mid-Week Slump
Director Ahn defined the series as a “Therapy Drama,” stating that "comfort" is the show's greatest weapon. Supporting actor Kim Bum added, “We live in an era where ‘wellness’ is vital. I hope this drama looks after the mental and social health of our viewers.”
Ahn Hyo-seop concluded with a heartfelt invitation: “Wednesday and Thursday are often the most exhausting days of the week. Instead of saying 'you must work harder,' this drama tells you 'it’s okay to rest today.' I hope it becomes a small sanctuary for everyone.”
'Sold Out Today' premieres on May 22 at 9:00 PM KST.
