Content powerhouse Takeone Studio officially teased its powerhouse slate of upcoming blockbusters on June 2, detailing a strategic roadmap to adapt premium intellectual properties (IPs) into diverse media formats tailored for the global market.

The studio's upcoming television drama slate features highly anticipated titles including The Whale Star, Summer Girl Ha Boy, and Cell—all based on wildly popular webtoons from major domestic platforms Naver and Daum.

Leading the charge is The Whale Star, which boasts a stellar, star-studded cast featuring Moon Ga-young, Choi Woo-shik, and Heo Nam-jun. The series will be co-directed by Hur Jin-ho, the legendary auteur behind the cinematic classic One Fine Spring Day, and Yu Beom-sang, the director of the drama Study Group. The project has locked in its broadcast window on major cable network tvN for next year.

Meanwhile, Summer Girl Ha Boy, a genre-bending romantic comedy fantasy, is scheduled to wrap up its casting process and slide into principal photography (crank-in) in the second half of this year. Additionally, the supernatural sci-fi action thriller Cell has officially entered its talent-scouting and casting phase.

Takeone Studio is also banking heavily on massive, multi-season premium dramas. Production is currently underway for King of Hawaii, Unforgotten (a localized genre thriller based on the original BBC hit series), and The Joseon Class System (working title), a satirical romantic comedy.

Notably, King of Hawaii will be penned by acclaimed screenwriter Kim Bo-tong and directed by Lee Won-suk. Set against the vibrant backdrop of late-1980s Hawaii, the series chronicles the gritty rise of a second-generation Korean immigrant who climbs the ranks to become an untouchable crime lord.

The studio is also fortifying its presence in the emerging short-form market via the platform Kitz, uniting top-tier K-pop artists with veteran production talent. In a calculated multi-window release strategy, these short-form projects will premiere digitally before being expanded into theatrical feature films and mid-form streaming series.

Among these short-form projects is Love Wi-Fi: Goong, adapted from the webtoon of the same name. The series will star Younghoon, Lee Ru-da, and Kim Dong-jun, with director Jang Tae-yoo (The Tyrant's Chef) steering the ship as the project's lead creative creator.

Finally, The Grim Reaper’s Life Extension Project will feature a charismatic pairing of Lee Min-ki and Monsta X’s Hyungwon. Anticipation is mounting as Lee Gae-byok, the director behind the box-office comedy hit Luck-Key, steps behind the camera to helm the project.
